About
This website was started in March 2008 to stimulate visual communication between refugees from Burma who live in camp Mae La and the outside world.
The people who are making the content are also learning about photographing, filming, writing, drawing, and making music. From time to time professionals from other countries will help them to develop their skills in these creative activities.
The intention is that this website will develop over time and become a two way process. You are invited to help this process by making a comment.
Website Timelight @ Mae La is created with the support of the organizations SP and Timelight from The Netherlands. The origin of the present initiative was the 2003 novel De onzichtbaren by Karel Glastra van Loon and the photo book De onzichtbaren in beeld by Jan Bogaerts.
The novel is now available in English as The Invisible Ones, and in the Swedish and German languages.
De onzichbaren in beeld (The Invisible Ones in Focus) is also available as a traveling exhibition in The Netherlands and other countries. More information about that can be found on http://www.theinvisibleones.eu/
I hope my brother Karel is able to see from somewhere above the huge job you did by making this beautiful website! If he does, I’m sure he will be very very proud of his friends Jan and Paul and of the Karen refugees.
Wishing you peace and freedom for all!
